Serena Williams encountered a thigh injury during the clay-court event in her first-round match last week, and has stated she will be sitting out of the Madrid matches.
The 32 year-old world's number one and defending champion Serena Williams had to withdraw due to a thigh injury, ahead of her Madrid Open quarter-final. Although bandaged the injury must have time to recover completely, ensuring her winning performance is restored. The injury is frustrating for Williams, as she has won the Madrid title for the last two years running!
She is planning to return for the Italian Open and play in Rome next week, leading into the French Open in Paris nearing the end of May. She will not be defeated by an injury, nor will she lose a title she is sure to obtain.
