England gave their best ever performance this summer, winning 174 medals in total, with 58 of those Gold, beating Australia by 37 medals.
What a spectacular closing ceremony we witnessed just 10 days ago at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games....England played their most successful games ever, with Australia and Canada ranking in second and third pole positions. Canada in third place won their position with less than half the number of medals England won.
With 71 Nations and Territories competing in numerous sporting activities, we should be a proud Nation finishing top of the medal table with 58 gold, 59 silver and 57 bronze achievements. The number of participating Nations has grown every year, from 11 taking part in 1930 to 71 today, however the tournament was suspended for many years between 1938 and 1950, due to the Second World War.
This was the first year that England finished top of a Commonwealth Games medals table since Edinburgh's games in 1986. Glasgow took home 53 medals, beating their previous best win of 33 medals, also achieved in 1986.
